What really is the sport of Equestrian?
The Kentucky Derby is the main event for horse racing. Every first weekend of May, horses all over the country head to Churchill Downs for the race. One of the biggest spectacles in all of sports. But there is another sport that involves horse that maybe you haven't heard about. That sport is called Equestrian. According to Merriam-Webster's dictionary, equestrian is of, or relating to, featuring horseback riding. Riders have the skills to ride their horses, steeplechasing, and vaulting their horses. These talented athletes maneuver their horses over fences with grace and poise. Judges score how well the horses move around the courses. Lucky for the Western Illinois Leatherneck community, we have our own Equestrian Club. People who enjoying that cathedral of Churchill Downs can appreciate this sport in Macomb. This gentle animals are ridden by Western Illinois' finest like club President Tori Waller and Jade Thompson. It may not be football, but it's something that anyone can enjoy.
